Testing and Experimenting on Animals

The article I read was about animal testing and experimenting on rabbits. When rabbits are used for animal testing, they are tested on and then are killed. The testing on the rabbits cause diseases like blindness and tissue damage. When these tests are conducted the rabbits have no pain relief and the humans show no sympathy towards them. The rabbits are abused and are treated with no care and no respect.

The article can be viewed at  http://www.peta.org/issues/animals-used-for-experimentation/rabbits-in-laboratories.aspx.

In my opinion I believe that the animals are treated unfairly and that animal rights aren’t obeyed in these experiments. According to the PETA foundation, over 241,000 rabbits are abused and tested on every year. By testing products on rabbits, the rabbit is exposed to harmful diseases. Some experiments include eye tests, which involve cosmetics like dish washing liquid. These substances cause  redness, swelling, discharge, cloudiness and blindness.  There are also many skin experiments that occur. Some of which are, skin corrosion tests and corrosive chemicals applied to there skin.  The chemicals are held there four 2 weeks and often burn there skin. After the rabbits are experimented on they are killed.

These experiments are wrong and extremely harmful to all animals not only rabbits. If this was happening to humans, everyone would be against it and it would be illegal immediately but is not the same case for the rabbits. How would you feel if this abuse was happening to you? What about animal rights? This process is animal cruelty and I believe we should take a stand against it.

I believe that one of the reasons that people test on animals is because their is a large number of them living in our world. But this doesn’t give us the right to kill them.  Some people believe that killing them won’t matter because their is so many of them in the world and they are just pests.  Killing the rabbits  will only disrupt the food chain and if these experiments continue, it will threaten the amount of rabbits living on our Earth.

So let’s take a stand against animal testing.

‘Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any way.’- PETA foundation.

  1. This was a very passionate and powerful first blog post. You have outlined the issue and then presented a strong argument against animal testing using emotive language (abused, harmful, cruelty) and rhetorical questions. This is well-structured. Let’s discuss this issue more in class. Check out this website about legal rights for other species – a big movement could be starting! http://www.nonhumanrightsproject.org/ (Just do a quick edit for their/there confusion.)
