The Perks Of Being A Wallflower is hands down one of my favourite movies. Comparing it to the book, they are awfully similar which viewers (and readers ) always like . Stephan Chbosky not just wrote the book but he also took on a strong role in the making of the film, which had a positive impact on the final product .
The casting was brilliant; all the actors suited the characters quite well. When I’m reading the book I imagine the actors playing the characters, it just goes to show that the people casting the film really thought it through.
The Perks Of Being A Wallflower revolves around a freshman named Charlie ( Logan Lerman ) and the changes and experiences he goes through as a teenager whilst coping with his own mental condition . He had also gone down the road of bad experiences .
Logan Lerman was the perfect choice for Charlie as Logan has that shy quiet aura about him which helps in the role of Charlie , along with Emma Watson ( Sam ) , Ezra Miller ( Patrick , Nina Dobrev ( Candace ) and all the other actors . I feel they really morphed into the characters, even though Emma’s British accent slipped through a couple of times.
I like how the love story between Sam and Charlie doesn’t fully take over and it doesn’t make the real meaning a shadow. Even though the relationship was featured a little bit more than in the book it kept the viewers that bit more engaged ( ‘cause everyone loves a good love story ) which was good .
The meaning to this movie that no matter what you’re not a sad story, you are not your (mental) disorder or your sad experience , you’re someone who isn’t meaningless and who isn’t alone. There is a quote in the book and movie; ‘We accept the love we think we deserve ‘. And this quote really plays a big role in the movie, in my opinion. The famous quote I feel is mostly related to Sam (Emma Watson) as she has had a troubled past and his Aunt Helen (Melanie Lynskey ) who had trouble and bad experiences in relationships. I find this quote amazingly beautiful and for the film to really capture it’s essence it is amazing.
This film really did capture teenager’s hearts from around the world. It had a beautiful message in it; it had amazing quotes (etc . ‘We can’t choose where we came from but we can choose where we go from there’) and references to a famous show (Rocky Horror Picture Show) and to some classic books (etc. To Kill A MockingBird), even some famous songs from the past such as ‘Asleep’ by The Smiths . Even the ending was beautiful. The words were capturing and the background music suited the whole thing. The movie’s ending in my opinion always has to be beautifully brilliant and the ending ticked the box .
This movie will make you laugh and cry and smile and it might even make you feel infinite.
Movie Rating 9/10
