What We’re Studying Now

Our focus for Term Two, 2015 is to delve deeper into the life, times and writing of the Bard himself, William Shakespeare. The focus of the Core unit is to engage students in the language craft of Shakespeare but also to immerse them in the themes and ideas of the play. Through this, students should come to appreciate the universal nature of the themes and find a connection with the text through the exploration of human nature.

An introductory unit looking at the life, times and writing of Shakespeare will lead into a close study of one of Shakespeare’s most famous comedies, Much Ado About Nothing. We’ll be looking into the mastery of his writing about love, friendship and trickery in this comedy of errors. We’ll be reading, watching, writing and acting in the style of Shakespeare, and looking at how Shakespeare’s work can fit into a modern context.
